Next
week marks the 42nd Annual Rachel B. Noel Distinguished Visiting
Professorship at Metropolitan State University of Denver.  See below for
details.

Our
speaker this year is Dr. Shakti Butler.  Her bio below describes her as “a
visionary filmmaker” and “a transformative learning educator,” and I just
cannot wait to see two of her films at our screenings and hear her describe her
work at our keynote addresses.  The pressing times in which we live
require such intelligent people who can guide us (through film) to rational
discussions as we make our way to try to “bend the arc of the moral universe
toward justice.”

I’ll
attend both keynotes, but I’m partial to the event at my mother’s church,
Shorter Community AME Church.  So, I hope to see you at the March 8
evening (5:30 pm) traditional event at Shorter Church.

For
me, the highlight of the evening will be awarding the Hope For the Future
Award, to Gary Jackson, one of my best and longest personal friends, who
clearly is one of the most deserving committee leaders to ever receive this
award.  That is really saying something because the list of past winners
is like a  “who’s who” of the most illustrious black leaders in Denver’s
black community.  By the way, I am one of thousands who count Gary as
their best friend!

A
final reason for coming to Shorter next Wednesday night is to honor winners of
the three Noel scholarships being awarded to our very deserving students.

Please
RSVP on either “click” below.
  See you on March 8
